ACTIVITIES & EXCURSION
An Oasis of Steam
The traditional Hammam, perhaps better known to westerners as the Oriental steam bath, has long played a part in the cultural and social life of eastern cities. An 'oasis of retreat' from daily stresses, entering the Hammam is akin to a journey: winding corridors turn this way and that, dramatic archways entice you on; until, suddenly, one enters the heart of Hammam, a haven of space, warmth and comfort. The calming sound of running water echoes from the ornately tiled walls, while the gentle and gracious attendant completes the sense of escape.
In respect of local traditions, the Oriental Hammam operates separate hours for ladies and gentlemen One&Only Royal Mirage offers access to more than 6 spectacular Dubai golf courses designed to challenge and delight golfers of all abilities. Nominated for the title ‘Established Golf Destination of the Year’ for the fourth time in recent years by the International Association of Golf Tour Operators (IAGTO), Dubai is the fastest growing destination in the golfing world. Home to the prestigious PGA Dubai Desert Classic, which each year sees the world’s best players compete for a multi-million dollar prize.
At the heart of Dubai’s golfing landscape lies One&Only Royal Mirage. Just ten minutes from the world famous Emirates Golf Club and The Montgomerie, Dubai, and 30 minutes away from the other courses, the resort is the perfect clubhouse for a Dubai golfing break. With the softest white sand lapped by the warm bright waters of Palm Island Bay, a kilometre-long private beach is the perfect playground. One&Only Royal Mirage offers a wide selection of water sports including sailing, kayaking, Hobie Cats, windsurfing, water-skiing and fishing. An abundance of sailfish, kingfish, tuna and bonito in the waters of the Gulf set the stage for exciting deep-sea fishing excursions. Pros organize single and double play among guests; and private, semi-private and group lessons are on offer. Guests enjoy three floodlit tennis courts day and night. A wide range of sport and leisure activities await at the resort, with floodlit tennis courts, putting green, petanque, volleyball and basketball. Considered one of the most cosmopolitan cities in the world, Dubai is paradise found for those who love to shop, offering something for every style and personality. Sophisticated shopping venues such as Dubai Villa Moda with boutiques showcasing Alexander McQueen, Missoni and Stella McCartney labels, and the just-opened Mall of the Emirates, voted the best new mall at the World Travel Awards in London, housing the shops of Ralph Lauren, Tod’s, Burberry, Armani, Marc Jacobs and more, as well as local merchandise including traditional carpets and Arabic textiles.
Traditional Arabian souks are part of the fabric of Dubai and highlights include a spice souk (frankincense, saffron and myrrh among the offerings), a perfume souk and a carpet souk, with the most famous of all being the fascinating gold souk. Dubai features a wide variety of traditional and modern sightseeing opportunities including the award-winning Dubai Museum, Sheikh Saeed’s House, The Bastakiya cultural walk, Jumeira Mosque or an authentic ‘Abra’ – a river taxi ride or Dhow cruise. Leave Dubai in the early morning for a 4x4 excursion into the desert, then join a camel caravan to the spectacular red dunes of Margham. Here, tradition is abandoned for a new and exciting sport – sand-skiing. A charming desert oasis that has been a stop on the caravan trail since time immemorial. The road from Dubai passes spectacular desert scenery to the garden city of Al Ain. Along the way, stop at the archaeological digs at Hili dating back some 5,000 years before arriving in the oasis town of Buraimi. Head deep into the vast expanse of desert for an overnight campout amidst oceans of sand under a sky of a million stars. Wake early in the morning for a journey through the wadis – a stream bed or channel that only carries water during the rainy season – which lead deep into the rugged Hajar Mountains. An exciting night out at the Dubai Racing Club at the Nad Al Sheba racecourse – venue of the Dubai World Cup, the world’s richest horse race.
An enchanting evening cruise aboard a traditional wooden dhow offers intriguingly different views of Dubai – from splendid examples of architecture to traditional villages.
Within the resort’s Health & Beauty Institute, guests may enjoy hair care and styling, as well as pampering nail care.
